Petrified Trees a la Dove Acrylic on canvas, 27 x 22 inches

One summer, colleagues at The Art Barge introduced the artist to the works of Arthur Dove and Stuart Avery. They both reduced landscapes to the basics, i.e., large masses of shape and color. Ray's Maloney's version of their style kept more of the natural landscape appearance, offset by a soft, somewhat unreal and mysterious tone.
