Awaiting Indiana Jones
Sculptured clay, fired twice, with reduction glazes.
According to the artist, "Most clay potters make vases plates, bowls and other non-human objects. I do not enjoy making utilitarian objects (much to my wife's disappointment). But in an effort to branch out from live-model sculptures, I tried creating things. One result is this deity. I actually started out to make a bowl, but lost interest, and cut off half of it. The half-bowl, stood up on end, makes up the amphitheatre. The head started as a cup but evolved into a face. Then the stairs and flames just followed."
